Seventh Annual Credit Union Sactown Run Benefiting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals

On the morning of Sunday, April 8th, more than 1,700 runners and walkers gathered in front of the California State Capitol in Sacramento for the seventh annual Credit Union Sactown Run. This race is organized by the Sacramento Running Association, and is held on the same day as the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Run in Washington, DC. Both events are hosted by Credit Unions for Kids (CUFK), the brand through which credit unions and affiliated businesses support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH). This year, the Sactown Run raised $239,918 for CMN Hospitals in California and Nevada, including UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals in San Francisco and Oakland.

These credit union runs start and finish in one day, but planning committees spend months securing sponsorships, gathering donations, organizing teams, and promoting the events in their communities. These fundraising efforts supplement all the services that credit unions provide to their members as non-profit financial institutions. As a community-based alternative to larger banks, credit unions return earnings to members instead of shareholders in the form of lower loan rates, higher savings rates, and low or no-fee products and services. The Sactown Run spreads awareness of how credit unions serve the community as a financial institution, while also supporting patients and families at local children’s hospitals.

“I’m always happy to see credit union employees and their families out enjoying the day. From the spirited volunteers to the many people wearing their ‘team’ shirts, all of you put our industry in a positive light to the general public,” said SacTown Committee Chairman and Diablo Valley FCU CEO John Pamer to participants. “The work you do lasts long after today. With the support we are able to provide to CMN, you are making a difference in the lives of children and their families every day.”

Thank you to all of our credit union partners and affiliates for supporting our hospitals through CUFK programs like the Sactown Run. As a Children’s Miracle Network partner, CUFK donations support the greatest need at our hospitals. Most recently, our CUFK funded a space in the new Center for Advanced Outpatient Care, which is currently in the final stages of construction at our Oakland hospital. This new facility will have a Pediatric Rehabilitation Terrain Park, an outdoor space with a variety of surfaces and equipment to aid in patient recovery.
