Pete’s ACE Hardware Celebrates National Family Literacy Day With Book Donation

November 1st is National Family Literacy Day and Pete’s ACE Hardware of Castro Valley is helping us celebrate! Jessica Jenson and Linda Roark of Pete’s ACE Hardware made a special visit to the hospital to stock the ACE Hardware Building Blocks of Literacy book cart, guaranteeing that all patients and their siblings have a book to read on National Family Literacy Day.

Pete’s ACE Hardware dedicated a few weeks of fundraising to supporting National Family Literacy Day resulting in nearly $3,000 raised. Linda and Jessica then partnered with a local bay area book store, Books on B in Hayward, California to purchase books that covered all reading levels, several different languages and many different genres ensuring that there was a book for any and every child.

The ACE Hardware Building Blocks of Literacy Program was founded in 2018 and brings the joy of reading to our patients and families. Over the course of the program thousands of books have been gifted to our patients and families making it possible to learn and grow even when they are away from the classroom.
